So with all the fancy new testing grounds changes coming up and the ever so long awaited removal of option selects I decided that I would finally get the courage to propose my personal vision for my favourite faction in For Honor: the Knights
DISCLAIMER!!!: This is mainly meant for discussion and as an idea that I would like the opinions on by other equally eager members of the community for high level balance.
I'm also well aware that some Knights aren't necessarily the highest priority of balance right now, the smoky sickle garden goblin and earraping hammer hobo need it more right now.
Finally all these changes were made with option select removal in mind and since I'm one of the very few that cripples himself knowingly not using them I think I got a pretty good picture of their implementation for the future.
...also this will be long soooo... enjoy
Stamina pause is one of the worst mechanics this game still suffers from and looking at Kyoshins kick but also Gladiators changes from TG I have no idea what Ubi wants to do with it. In my humble opinion unless a bash trades potential damage or is specifically meant to drain stamina it should not interact with it in any way shape or form period. Warden:
- All bashes (exception being Centurions triple punch and Gladiators parry counter punch) no longer drain or pause stamina
Not starting off with a revolution I just feel like Warden is in an okay spot as a dedicated duelist that is the classic jack of all trades but master of none. These are mainly just awkward leftovers from older times that might as well be in a season patch. Conqueror:
- second light after whiffed light now 500ms (from 600ms)
- crushing counter no longer guarantees a light (still chains into bash and heavy)
- sprint attack now undodgeable
Now we´re getting to some spicy stuff. So Conqueror is widely considered to be the most frustrating heroe to fight against only maybe being rivaled by the screaming hamer hobo and the skating scotsman. So with the stamina shenanigans on his bash removed and his mini parry on his zone gone where do we start making him into the battering ram he was meant to be? Let's start off by improving on his infinite chain due to his inability to chain from the same side. I feel like he was worthy of enhanced lights since his chain otherwise has a 50/50 chance of being stopped immediately. Going further into chain pressure the improved chain bashes that are now more of a thread should mix fairly well with the undodgeable mixup chain heavies. And about the unblockables from the top, this will include lights. you can either use them to bait out parries for your feint to bash or to bait them into your new and un-clunkafied full block stance. Preemptively to all those wondering why you should pick Kyoshin now over Conq: Kyoshin has no limit on his kaze stance, he has way better forward movement to catch rollers, he has a dodge heavy that has i-frames AND better safety against GB, he has an unblockable that is accessible from kaze stance, he can hard feint, combo from the same side and has a lethal stagger in a gank with kaze slashes. Peacekeeper:
- removed all guard during zone
- all lights are now enhanced
- side attacks in chain now undodgeable with improved hitbox
- top attacks in chain now unblockable
- recoveries on lights and heavies can now be cancelled with full block stance
- shield bash mixup now 600ms (from 800ms)
- shield uppercut now 600ms (from 800ms)
As you could´ve probably guessed by now, my idea for these PK changes was to take away from the bleed that makes her damage obnoxious at times but also never feels rewarding to the player playing PK. so to give her more frequent executions and less of these moments where an opponent proceeds to kill you with a random heavy while bleeding out and maybe getting healed in time. The unblockable is also mainly meant as an openegank bait since PK can easily be external blocked when she didn't manage to get any bleed by the time teammates arrive. Lawbringer:
- GB bleed dmg reduced to 22 (from 32)
- bleed damage from followup bleed damage stab now 6 (was 10)
- top heavy opener now 20 (was 18)
- side heavy opener now 15 (was 13)
- side dodge heavy now 12 (was 10)
- forward dodge heavy now unblockable and feintable
Oh boy this is going to be fun with a lot of people. For some reason some people still seem to think that LB is fine in his current state despite having one of the most unhealthy design philosophies in the entire game. Sure he's got parries going for him but that makes him neither fun to play nor fun to fight. So Let's start with an opener, basically improving shove into a state where it is on par with other bashes in the game and I thought that Centurions punch is one of the better examples of a charge mixup in that regard, however due to LBs ability to access it from neutral the damage potential gets capped at a light as it is mainly meant as a starter into the rest of your combo. removing the annoying part of shove just like Warden, Cent, WM and all the other chargeable bashes it is now punishable with GB. Side dodge shove does not get the same treatment as it is relegated to defensive usage and it already fills that role fairly well and making it GB-able removes instances where an LB just dodge shoves your combo forcing you to constantly feint to neutral. HA on chain shove is mainly as a way to trade with dodge attack and keep the train going. Speaking of Thomas the Law engine: impale no longer guarantees a heavy which both reduces his parry punishes and reduces the instances where you get cheesed by LBs tractor beam across a point. As slight compensation I changed the input for impale to a GB mainly because of the intuitive way of having to switch your guard during a parry to get the according punish which sometimes ends up with the opponent just blocking your impale, just so he's more up to par with WM in that regard. So… the long dong of the law, what do we do with it? The main reason it was hard to try and improve it was because it guaranteed a heavy, which made it impractical as a neutral bash (pretty sure Freeze went into more depth in a video about all these issues). So I started off by fitting it more between Glads toestab and Shugos hug by giving it the damage of Glad but the stun duration of Shugos demons embrace. Now I could work on the way it is built into his kit as a mixup in his chain keeping it slower than the chain shove for tracking reasons and giving it chain potential to flow back into his combo. A forward sprint attack to catch backdogy opponents and a long awaited light light combo round out a kit that finally deserves the title of “VERSATILE”...with less annoyance. Centurion:
- forward and chain shove now chargeable (same behaviour as Centurions punch) full charge still only guarantees a light
- all shoves are now punishable with GB on whiff
- side dodge shove is now able to be GBed
- chain shove has HA
- now implemented as a mixup in a chain (same input)
- reduced recovery (Shugoki demons embrace)
- on whiff chains into heavy
- now 600ms (was 1000ms)
- only guarantees a light
- forward heavy while locked on gives an impale (right heavy)
- wallsplat after impale no longer guarantees heavies
- added light light combo
- zone recovery now 700ms (from 400ms)
- zone now chains into longarm
- impaling riposte now a GB input and unblockable like Warmonger
Back from that novel that was LB to some simpler things in life like punching and stabbing the sh\
- added chargeable dodge heavy (properties and damage like neutral heavy)
- Eagles Talon damage now 35 (from 30)
- second and third light in chain now undodgeable
t out of opponents, Centurion needs a dodge attack as he is one of 4 characters that still don't have one or at least an equivalent. So to make it interesting as well I gave it the same properties as his neutral pins. Reason being if someone goes for a feint to GB approach he is still going to catch Cent, but if he merely feints to neutral to parry he will have to take the risk of a variably timed pin. In order to deal with the new incoming dodge attack meta I also felt that it was fair to give Cent an improvement to his punch-light mixup against dodge attacks specifically. And when I was looking through Shugo´s 38 dmg heavies, Hitos 34 dmg heavies and Shamans 35+15 dmg bite it just felt odd to have Cents neutral resetting finisher sitting at only 1 dmg higher than his UB pi (seriously why would you ever go for an uppercut on a knee wallsplat if all it gets you is 1 dmg more).* Gladiator:
Yes I know it is very unlikely that Ubisoft will ever go back on a change they specifically made, but I feel like Glad right now has lost a very interesting part of his kit not because the stun itself was the problem but because it went along with an unhealthy stamina mechanic that made it work in more ways than it was intended (literally like Raiders stunning tap the problem wasn´t the blind it was the ridiculous damage that followed it). Honestly, I liked the idea of a character having very solid mix ups that rely on mixing and matching rather than confirmed damage. Black Prior:
- bashes have stun properties again
- OOS toestab knocks down again (follow up heavy resets to neutral and Gladiator's chain ends)
- all dodge lights are now enhanced
- zone attack heavy no longer feintable
Again simple stuff, punish the guy for only pressing two buttons and improve a bit on his weakest tool. Such simple changes I won't even explain them. Gryphon:
- Now has the same GB vulnerability on whiffed bashes as Conq
- forward dodge heavy has improved range and tracking
- Zone attack no longer be followed up with a light
I still to this day wonder why Ubisoft gave in so easily and so heavily to the Gryphon hate back when he came out. Nowadays he's just a cramp to play and play against so at least I tried with some tools that make his heavy mixup work against dodge attacks and give him his old opener back. Warmonger:
- finisher heavies are now undodgeable
- forward dodge light now enhanced
- neutral bash reverted to old input
I have no idea on this mess of jumbled design and failed copy paste. With all the other Knight characters at least I had an identity to work with or some solid tools to make it more interesting. But what am I supposed to do with the weird mid-breed of Warden and Centurion? She flails her sword like a baseball bat and has the stances and edge alignment of a drunk monkey with a kitchen knife. Sure she´s good but in my opinion the blandest and most uninspired Character we ever got in this game.
- ...just rework her completely please :(

Although Destiny QoL changes are not SO EXTREME, there are still very important especially since we will be getting new players with the Witch Queen. Here's what I personally I want to see :
-Increase of Vault Space by at least 500(or make different tabs for kinetic, energy, heavy, armor, miscellaneous and give at least 150 capacity to each).
-Blue Auto-dismantle OR the player stops receiving blues after they reach the soft cap.
-Allow us to change the masterwork for weapons, seriously it sucks having 4/4 on perks but OOPS here's a reload masterwork cause f**k you
-Make playlist Vendors only drop their PLAYLIST SPECIFIC WEAPONS AND ARMOR! Seriously why do the engrams drop world loot pool items, it makes no sense.
-Allow people to buy Mod Components fro Ada-1's inventory for legendary shards(so basically how it was in season of the forge). And while we are in the discussion for mods, I'd say have banshee sell 4 weapon mods a day and Ada-1 sell 2 armor mods and 2 combat style mods per day.
-Increase postmaster space to 40? Not that important but still nice.
-You could also lower the cost of switching our armor elements, even though I don't have a need for it, it sucks for some people that don't have 2 stacks of ascendant shards laying around and want to experiment with new builds.
-Last and it's a recent one, put ritual weapons and ornaments back into a small questline. I don't know who had the idea to put not only the weapon on a rep grind, but to need to do that rep grind TWICE if you want ONE ornament. OR, when you acquire the weapon from rank 16 on a vendor, you get that vendor ornament and when you reach rank 16 on the other two, you get the ornament instead of the weapon.
